Iowa's unemployment rate dipped to a 10-year low in October, state officials reported Friday (Nov 20)
October's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 3.5 percent was the lowest of the last decade and a small improvement over September's rate of 3.6 percent.
Over the past decade, Iowa's unemployment rate reached as high as 6.6 percent in the spring and summer of 2009.
Beth Townsend, director of Iowa Workforce Development, said the unemployment rate is evidence of a strong local economy.
"Iowa’s economy continues to improve," Townsend said in a statement. "Total nonfarm employment added jobs for the second consecutive month, and the number of unemployed Iowans continued to trend down." (DM Reg. 11-20-15)
